Our society has struggled with issues of race and racism for several centuries. While we now have a certain level of political and legal equality in our society we still live in a state of racial alienation. However, we must wonder if there is a distinct Christian solution to the racial hostility in our society. If we have such a solution then we should think about how we can find that answer. This work focuses on the exploration of a distinct Christian answer to the problems of racism. Dr. George Yancey critiques secular models of Colorblindness, Anglo-Conformity, Multiculturalism and White Responsibility and argues that Christians need to find new solutions for ending the evil of racism in our society. He challenges Christians to look for solutions to racism within our own faith instead of within secular philosophies. But that is the easy part. Dr. Yancey then goes on to articulate some ideas that may help us to find a Christian model of mutual responsibility. Ideally this book will help to launch a needed discussion in the Christian church about what we have to offer to help solve the problems of racism in the United States. This book will be helpful for Christians who desire to pursue serious discussions on the racial issues in our society. This can also be an excellent book to spur discussion in Christian classrooms and churches across our nation. Because of the critique of the secular models in this book, it can serve as a Christian apologitical source for racial issues. Finally, while it is not a theological book, this is a book that can help to inform theologians of some unique challenges that racism presents at our society and provides them ways they can theologically pursue answers to those issues.
